About Lava Lake Conservation Research Fund The Lava Lake Conservation Research Fund was established by the Lava Lake Institute to support research by graduate students, university researchers, and independent scientists on topics that will have a direct and positive conservation impact on sagebrush steppe and montane ecosystems in the West with a particular focus on the Pioneers - Craters landscape. We are particularly interested in research projects related to wide-ranging wildlife species, landscape-scale monitoring, aspen ecology, sagebrush habitat restoration, and noxious weed management. Lava Lake will accept and evaluate applications for research projects to be conducted within this region. Preference will be given to projects that: - clearly demonstrate the application of the proposed research to conservation and/or management issues in the Pioneers - Craters region
- directly address one or more of the Fund's priorities for the current program year
- are conducted in partnership with universities, other non-profit organizations, and state and federal land management agencies
- will be published in peer-reviewed journals
